Lottie F. Stern was born on May 11, 1930 to Kurt and Lucie Seligman in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Her father owned a clothing store which was vandalized on Kristalnacht in 1938. After her father spent a month under arrest at Buchenwald, her mother managed to get him released. In March, 1939, Lottie went to England where she lived with a host family, while her parents lived separately, also in England and they met up together on the ship to America. They arrived in New York on September 10, 1940 and made their way to Philadelphia where they had family. Lottie worked at Sears, Roebuck & Co doing bookkeeping and office work. She was introduced to Ludwig (Lou) Stern by a relative and they were married on August 31, 1952. They lived in the Strawberry Mansion, Philadelphia neighborhood until moving to Camden, NJ in 1954 and then to Haddon Township in 1960 where they joined TBS. They chose their house since it was within walking distance to TBS which was then in Haddon Heights. Lottie was active with Sisterhood, writing the acknowledgement cards for Torah Fund donations. She also served on the PTA at Van Sciver Elementary school. Together they had 2 children - Alvin (married to Jodi Cohen) and Betty (married to Frank Adler). Lottie was a devoted and kind stay-at-home mom. She died of cancer July 23, 1979 at age 49, regrettably not living to see either child married or her grandchildren, Joshua (married to Allison Goldberg), Geoffrey (married to Ilana Hollander) and Lawrence (married to Alison McElgunn).
